Three members of the Players Coalition and New York Jets owner Chris Johnson have sent a letter to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and other state officials urging passage of comprehensive bail reform.

The letter released Thursday is signed by Johnson and players Josh McCown and Kelvin Beachum of the Jets Jim McMahon Jersey , and Demario Davis of the Saints. Davis is a former Jet. They cited the need for action on pretrial reform in the eight remaining days of the 2018 legislative session.

”Our bail system has been failing low-income communities and communities of color for generations,” they wrote. ”We are at a moment of crisis, but also one of great opportunity: together, we can create a pretrial justice system that reflects the best values of New York for all New Yorkers.”

Also sent the letter were Carl Heastie, speaker of the New York State Assembly, and John Flanagan, majority leader of the New York State Senate.

The coalition noted ”we were so disappointed that the state budget negotiations failed to produce meaningful bail reform.”

Aaron Hicks hit three home runs and the New York Yankees pummeled David Price again, connecting five times in the first four innings Sunday night on the way to an 11-1 rout of the Boston Red Sox.

Luis Severino became the first 13-game winner in the majors, cruising through 6 2/3 shutout innings of two-hit ball after the Bronx Bombers quickly built him a big cushion. With the teams trading blowouts all weekend http://www.chicagobearsteamonline.com/tarik-cohen-jersey , the Yankees (54-27) took two of three from their longtime rivals to regain baseball’s best record and first place in the AL East.

Batting leadoff against a left-hander, Hicks homered twice from the right side of the plate and once from the left. He smacked a two-run shot to right field in the second inning and a solo drive to center in the fourth that chased Price (9-6) and made it 8-0.

Hicks pulled his 14th of the season into the right-field stands in the eighth off Hector Velazquez. It was the first three-homer game by a Yankees player since Alex Rodriguez, part of the ESPN broadcast team Sunday night, accomplished the feat at Minnesota in July 2015.

CUBS 11, TWINS 10

CHICAGO (AP) – Jon Lester hit a three-run homer in an eight-run second inning and wound up with his NL-leading 11th victory.

Ian Happ also homered for the Cubs. They have scored at least 10 runs in four straight games for the first time since 1930. Chicago swept the three-game series and has won four in a row overall.

Lester (11-2) allowed four runs, two of them earned, and nine hits in five-plus innings.

Javier Baez, who doubled twice, Happ and Willson Contreras each had three hits.

Mitch Garver hit a two-run homer off reliever Dillon Maples in the Twins’ five-run eighth.

Cubs closer Brandon Morrow got one out in the eighth and pitched a scoreless ninth for his 18th save in 19 chances. Lance Lynn (5-7) was the loser.

Brian Dozier hit a two-run homer and Jake Cave also homered for the Twins.

RAYS 3 http://www.chicagobearsteamonline.com/markus-wheaton-jersey , ASTROS 2.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) – Blake Snell struck out 10, reliever Diego Castillo fanned Jose Altuve in a key spot and Tampa Bay beat Houston to end a homestand.

The Rays went 8-1 at Tropicana Field, taking three of four from the World Series champion Astros, sweeping three from the New York Yankees and winning both games against Washington. Tampa Bay set a team record by allowing no more than two runs in its sixth straight game.

Matt Duffy hit a two-out, two-run single in the seventh inning that put the Rays ahead 2-1 and Mallex Smith homered in the eighth. Evan Gattis homered twice for Houston.

Snell (11-4) allowed one run and four hits in 7 1/3 innings.

Charlie Morton (10-2) struck out 11 in 6 2/3 innings.

DODGERS 6, ROCKIES 4

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Matt Kemp had three hits and drove in four runs, including a go-ahead homer leading off the eighth inning that rallied Los Angeles past Colorado to prevent a sweep.

Kemp sent his 14th homer of the season over the center-field wall off Adam Ottavino (4-2) to put Los Angeles ahead 5-4. It was the Dodgers’ first homer of July after they hit a major league-leading and franchise-record 55 in June.

One out later, Yasiel Puig doubled and Joc Pederson followed and reached on an infield single to second. Puig ran hard into third and hopped back and forth before taking off for the plate Maliek Collins Jersey , sliding belly first. He got up and swung his arms in wild celebration with the Dodgers ahead 6-4.

Kemp drove in the Dodgers’ first three runs with an RBI groundout in the first, a double in the third and a single in the fifth.

Daniel Hudson (3-2) went one inning. Kenley Jansen pitched a perfect ninth for his 22nd save.

Nolan Arenado hit his 21st homer and had an RBI grounder for the Rockies.

GIANTS 9, DIAMONDBACKS 6

PHOENIX (AP) – Brandon Belt and Joe Panik drove in two runs each and Hunter Pence had a pinch-hit, two-run double, leading San Francisco to a series sweep against Arizona.

The Giants had 11 hits in the first five innings and cruised to their seventh win in eight games.

A four-run fifth inning highlighted by Pence’s double off reliever Silvino Bracho gave the Giants an 8-3 lead. Cory Gearrin (1-1) got one out in the fourth to earn the win in relief of starter Derek Holland.

The Giants tagged Diamondbacks starter Zack Godley (9-6) for seven runs on nine hits in four-plus innings, ending his four-game winning streak.

Arizona rallied with two runs in the seventh on Paul Goldschmidt’s 18th home run of the season, and Jarrod Dyson became the eighth player in team history to record at least two hits, two runs batted in and two stolen bases in a single game. The Diamondbacks brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth with two outs, but Will Smith struck out Jake Lamb for Smith’s second save.

ORIOLES 8 Chris Ivory Jersey , ANGELS 2

BALTIMORE (AP) – Manny Machado and Mark Trumbo hit consecutive homers after the Angels lost a popup in the sun, and Baltimore beat Los Angeles to end a seven-game losing streak.

After the Orioles took charge with a six-run fourth inning, Trumbo homered again in the fifth and Trey Mancini also connected to help Baltimore secure its only victory during a seven-game homestand that began with four straight losses to Seattle. The Orioles improved to 1-15 against the AL West and won at home for only the second time in 19 games since May 13.

Kevin Gausman (4-6) weathered temperatures in the upper 90s to go eight innings, allowing two runs and six hits to end a run of eight straight winless starts.

Kole Calhoun homered and Albert Pujols drove in a run for the Angels.

Deck McGuire (0-1) was the loser.

Hue Jackson apparently has made a “heck of a decision.” The Browns coach Josh Jones Jersey , who recently said he would have a “heck of a decision” to make if Tyrod Taylor were injured early in the season, indicted with his actions and then his words that Baker Mayfield is the team’s No. 2 quarterback.

Taylor left Thursday’s game against the Eagles with a left hand injury, and Mayfield replaced him. The No. 1 overall pick finished the game 8-of-12 for 76 yards and an interception.

“I think that I already proved who [the backup quarterback] is,” Jackson said Sunday, via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “It’s Baker. Baker is there. We haven’t played a regular-season game yet, so we will see how that all unfolds. I feel good about the things that Baker went in and did in the game.”

Jackson caught himself, apparently realizing he hadn’t told Drew Stanton or the rest of the team yet.

“I pretty much have my mind made up on where that is J'Marcus Webb Jersey ,” Jackson said. “I haven’t set it officially so you guys can write it. I like to tell my team first before I make those decisions on what we’re doing. We will kind of go from there.”

Mayfield will play Thursday night in the preseason finale.

Three days after missing the playoffs, the St. Louis Blues learned their star forward Vladimir Tarasenko will need surgery on Wednesday for a dislocated left shoulder.

Tarasenko was hurt in the first period of the regular-season finale on Saturday in Colorado. The Blues needed a point in the game to reach the playoffs, but lost 5-2.

Tarasenko revealed he had a dislocated shoulder while standing with his left arm in a sling Tuesday as teammates cleared out their lockers. The recovery after surgery can take up to six months.

”We’ll see how it goes,” Tarasenko said. ”It was a hard year all the way around.”

The 26-year-old led the team with 33 goals and 66 points. It was his lowest point total in four seasons. The Blues won 44 games this season and finished with 94 points.

Mike Yeo wrapped up his first full season as the Blues coach. St. Louis is 66-40-8 since Yeo replaced Ken Hitchcock as coach on Feb. 1, 2017. That’s the 10th-best regular-season record in the NHL in that period.

But it’s little consolation for a team missing the playoffs for the first time after six straight seasons. Two years ago, the Blues were playing for the conference championship.

”We understand we’ve taken a step back this year,” General Manager Doug Armstrong said. ”That lies firmly on my shoulders. My job is to deal in reality. The formula we had this year did not breed success and we need to find that formula.”

Armstrong said the play of special teams needs to improve.

The Blues were 30th on power-play success at 15.4 percent. They finished 18th in penalty killing at 79.7 percent. During the previous six seasons making the playoffs La'el Collins Jersey , the Blues ranked No. 1 in the NHL in penalty killing with a rate of 84.3 percent.

However, the Blues scored only 38 power-play goals.

”As a coaching staff, I promise you we won’t just sit around and just assume things will get better next year,” Yeo said. ”We have to look at everything from the way we manage it, operate it and holding guys accountable and the personnel we’re using and the tactics.”

When Yeo coached the Minnesota Wild, the power play also was stagnant.

”I’ll take responsibility for it,” Yeo said. ”I don’t dodge that. That’s on me.”

Armstrong backs his coach.

”Mike and I are tethered together and we’re going to figure this thing out http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com/jaire-alexander-jersey ,” Armstrong said.

St. Louis was just 24-17 on home ice this season.

”You can’t have the home record we had and be satisfied,” Armstrong said. ”The people that come here work for a living and we need to send them home happy. If we’re in the top 10 in home records, we’re in the playoffs.”

The salary cap should increase about $4 million for next season. Armstrong said the Blues ownership will continue to spend to the cap.

”We spend to the cap,” Armstrong said. ”We’ve had a good run here. We’ve got to get back to that.”

Goalie Jake Allen was signed to a four-year, $17.4 million contract on July 1, 2016. He finished with a 27-25-3 record, a 2.75 goals-against average Morgan Moses Jersey , a .906 save percentage and one shutout.

”I definitely need to be more consistent,” Allen said. ”I know I’m capable of it. I don’t think I need to change much. I’m a pretty good goalie.”

Backup goaltender Carter Hutton is an unrestricted free agent. Hutton was 17-7-3 with a 2.09 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage. He had three shutouts.

Armstrong said he wants to bring Hutton back.

Melvin Ingram expects greatness from the Los Angeles Chargers defense.

Ingram is so confident of it Peyton Manning Jersey , he wants a chance to moonlight on offense.

The Pro Bowl defensive end lobbied for a look at tight end after the team's three-day mandatory minicamp concluded Thursday, offering another signal of how productive the Chargers expect to be in their second season under coordinator Gus Bradley.

"It's just getting in where I fit in," said Ingram, who matched his career high with 10陆 sacks last season. "Fitting in and making some plays. The more you can do."

The Chargers' defense expects to be able to do plenty. They have more familiarity with Bradley's 4-3 defense, a potential star in rookie safety Derwin James, and another option to rush the passer in emerging talent Isaac Rochell.

Joey Bosa is not as boisterous as his counterpart at defensive end, but shares Ingram's outlook the Chargers will be formidable after allowing 17 points per game last season, which ranked third in the NFL.

"Hopefully a similar defense to what we had last year, with some of those sloppy mistakes and some of the run game stuff patched up and fixed Marcus Martin Jersey ," Bosa said.

"We were moving in the last direction last year. Obviously, here and there we let up some tough games in the run game. But I think with the addition of the rookies we have and after years of playing together, can't tell the future but it's looking like we are going to have a great defense."

James, who was selected by the Chargers at No. 17 overall in the first round, was the standout among the newcomers this week. He intercepted Phillip Rivers on Wednesday and looked solid in his most extensive work so far, aside from a mixup on an assignment when the offense put a receiver in motion on the final day.

Asked about where James looks best after playing both strong and free safety, coach Anthony Lynn joked, "In a Charger uniform."

Said Ingram: "That's why we went and got him in the first round. He's been everything as expected."

There were no such presumptions for Rochell, a seventh-round draft pick in 2017 coming out of Notre Dame. After losing weight and becoming more proficient in pass rush techniques Maliek Collins Jersey , however, he could give the Chargers another threat coming off the edge to complement the standout duo of Bosa and Ingram.

"I've always liked Isaac," Bosa said. "I think he's a great guy and I think he has the potential to be a great rush end, but the jump he made was kind of unexpected. Seeing him out here with his hands and just the way he is moving is pretty unbelievable."

"He's definitely going to be another piece to our rotation," Ingram said. "It's not 'if he can become,' he's definitely going to be a piece."

Rochell's development might allow Ingram a chance to catch passes instead of getting sacks.

Ingram, who memorably scored on a 68-yard touchdown run off a fake punt in college at South Carolina, spent time after practice working against cornerback Tony Brown.

Ingram even told Rivers that a connection between the quarterback and converted defender could be more productive than the record-setting rapport he shared with tight end Antonio Gates.

When it comes to evaluating the Chargers' defense or his own skills, Ingram is not lacking for swagger.

"I'm always confident Ramon Humber Jersey ," Ingram said. "Ain't nothing changed."

NOTES: Rivers and defensive tackle Brandon Mebane did not practice Thursday, as Lynn gave any player with at least 10 years experience the day off. Lynn extended the policy to excuse offensive tackle Russell Okung, who will be entering his ninth season this fall.

The Panthers players who have met with new owner David Tepper seem as fired up about his arrival as the league’s other owners were at adding guy worth $11 billion to their exclusive club.

Tepper flew straight from last week’s owners meetings where he was approved by the league to come to Charlotte to meet with some of the team’s key leaders about the anthem policy, and left them with a favorable impression of the new boss.

鈥淚t went great. Rarely do you see an owner come in and want to rush from the owners meeting and just conversate with the guys,鈥?safety Mike Adams said, via Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer. “Just talk about everything, us as a team.

“The one thing I took away from it, the one thing I like about him is he鈥檚 got that fire and he wants to win. Not taking away from [Jerry] Richardson, but he鈥檚 fired up. He鈥檚 happy.鈥?/p>

While improving on Richardson’s 23-year record of 192-192-1 (including playoffs) will be helpful Matt Slauson Jersey , Adams was also encouraged by the fact Tepper seemed open to hearing their thoughts on the new anthem policy (which is frankly the kind of conversation Richardson would have never had interest in having).

鈥淭hat was addressed. We talked about that,鈥?Adams said. 鈥淚t was an open conversation and that鈥檚 going to be an ongoing conversation all year long 鈥?with every team. And you know that. Everyone鈥檚 going to be all over that. . . .

鈥淗e let it be known that we have a voice. He understands that we have a voice. And he understands that he has a voice, too. And he would like to help us with that in different ways.鈥?/p>

The Panthers under Richardson were one of the least vocal teams in the league, with no kneelers and only one player (Julius Peppers) who stayed in the locker room for the anthem the week after President Donald Trump inflamed players with his SOB remarks.

But between the addition of wide receiver/activist Torrey Smith and Tepper’s new openness to listening to players, things could be changing there.

The Latest on Wednesday’s final slate of NBA regular-season games (all times local):

3:10 a.m.

The NBA has released the first-round playoff schedule Bryan Bulaga Jersey , and the reigning NBA champs will host the postseason opener.

Game 1 between Golden State and San Antonio opens the slate on Saturday at 3 p.m. Eastern – a somewhat unusual noon local time tip-off for the Warriors.

The Warriors-Spurs game will followed Saturday by three other openers – Washington-Toronto, Miami-Philadelphia and New Orleans-Portland.

On Sunday, the games are Milwaukee-Boston, Indiana-Cleveland, Utah-Oklahoma City and Minnesota-Houston.

Game 2s will be held Monday through Wednesday.

Game 3s start Thursday, and all Game 7s – if necessary – would be on April 28 and 29.

For those planning way ahead, the NBA Finals are set to begin on May 31.

1:00 a.m.

The NBA playoff bracket is complete.

Portland beat Utah to grab the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference, and that allowed the rest of the bracket to be filled in – finally. The Trail Blazers will play No. 6 New Orleans in the first round, and No. 4 Oklahoma City will have home-court advantage against the fifth-seeded Jazz.

The Jazz-Blazers game was the 1,230th and final regular-season matchup of the season. Every other game on Wednesday’s schedule was over before the final buzzer in Portland, meaning it took the entire schedule to determine the last two matchups in the West.

11:55 p.m.

The first two of the four Western Conference first-round matchups have been set.

No. 1 Houston will play No. 8 Minnesota, and No. 2 Golden State (probably with no Stephen Curry) will play No. 7 San Antonio (probably with no Kawhi Leonard).

The Rockets swept four games from the Timberwolves, and the Warriors went 3-1 against the Spurs in the regular season.

The rest of the West bracket will be set based on the outcome of the Utah-Portland game. New Orleans will start on the road, regardless of the winner, and Oklahoma City – thanks to its wild 137-123 win over Memphis – could still get a top-four seed.

10:50 p.m.

Minnesota is in the playoffs.

Jeff Teague’s jumper with just over a minute left in overtime put the Timberwolves ahead to stay http://www.washingtonredskinsteamonline.com/matthew-ioannidis-jersey , and Minnesota topped Denver 112-106 on Wednesday night to grab the final spot in the NBA playoffs.

The last West spot was the only one up for grabs on the season’s final night. It was the NBA’s first winner-gets-in, loser-goes-home game since 1997.

Denver would have gone to the postseason with a win at Minnesota.

Minnesota is in the playoffs for the first time since 2004 – ending what was the longest active drought in the NBA

10:40 p.m.

The East is set.

It took 82 games, the entire regular season and even an overtime in Miami to decide things, but the bracket for the Eastern Conference playoffs is filled.

No. 1 Toronto will play No. 8 Washington, No. 2 Boston will meet No. 7 Milwaukee, No. 3 Philadelphia draws No. 6 Miami and No. 4 Cleveland gets No. 5 Indiana.

All the Game 1s will be Saturday or Sunday, at the lower seed.

Indiana went 3-1 against the Cavaliers in the regular season. All the other first-round matchups are ones where the playoff foes split four meetings this season.

10:15 p.m.

For the first time since 2001, Philadelphia is a top-three seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

For the first time since 2008, LeBron James is not.

The 76ers routed Milwaukee 130-95 on Wednesday night to wrap up the No. 3 seed on the East bracket, and that meant No. 4 Cleveland will face No. 5 Indiana when the playoffs open this weekend.

Philadelphia’s 16-game winning streak is the longest to end a regular season in NBA history.

Philadelphia rolled from the start, taking a 46-18 lead after the first quarter. The 28-point margin tied for the sixth-largest in any quarter of 76ers history.

The only way Cleveland would have finished No. 3 was if it won and Philadelphia lost. But with the 76ers taking command so quickly and essentially locking Cleveland into No. 4 long before the final buzzers, James got most of Wednesday night off. He finished with 10 points in just over 10 minutes.

9:40 p.m.

Russell Westbrook will average a triple-double for the second straight season.

The Oklahoma City guard came into Wednesday needing 16 rebounds against Memphis to average 10.0 boards this season – and got there in the third quarter of the Thunder’s game against the Grizzlies.

Westbrook has no issue outdueling teammates for rebounds, and grabbed 16 of the Thunder’s first 27 rebounds on Wednesday.

It’s only the third time in NBA history that someone has averaged a triple-double. Westbrook did it last year, and Oscar Robertson did it in 1961-62.

9:30 p.m.

Houston Rockets forward Luc Mbah a Moute will likely miss at least the first round of the playoffs after dislocating his right shoulder in a meaningless game for the Western Conference leaders.

Coach Mike D’Antoni said Wednesday that Mbah a Moute will likely miss two to three weeks with the injury sustained against the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night.

Mbah a Moute missed 15 games in December and January after dislocating his right shoulder during a fall, and it happened again on a dunk in traffic at Staples Center.

Mbah a Moute is a key rotation player for the Rockets Matt Slauson Jersey , who have the best record in the NBA. He averages 7.5 points and 3.0 rebounds per game off the bench.

9 p.m.

Nathan MacKinnon is counting on 18,000 of his rowdy friends to give the Colorado Avalanche a little bit of an extra buzz.

Maybe even throw Nashville goaltender Pekka Rinne off his game.

Trailing the top-seeded Predators 2-0 in the first-round series, the Avalanche return Monday (10 p.m. EDT, NBCSN) to a building that’s certainly been something to write home about this season. Their 28 wins at the Pepsi Center in the regular season tied the franchise mark held by the 2000-01 squad that went on to capture the Stanley Cup.

”We have lots of confidence here,” said MacKinnon , whose team has dropped 12 straight to the Predators. ”The building has been a lot of fun this year.”

Colorado isn’t the only team hoping a change of scenery provides a change in momentum – Toronto returns to friendly confines down 2-0 in the series against Boston (7 p.m., NBCSN). The New Jersey Devils are in the same boat versus Tampa Bay (7:30 p.m., CNBC) heading into their first playoff home game since 2012.

Then there’s the San Jose Sharks, who are sitting pretty after two road wins against Anaheim (10:30 p.m., CNBC). Now at home, the Sharks get last change and the opportunity to dictate matchups.

”It’s a nice luxury being at home, having those matchups,” Sharks coach Peter DeBoer said. ”The bigger advantage is the crowd and the environment and being able to sleep in your own bed.”

For New Jersey, climbing back in the series boils down to this – avoiding big early deficits. They trailed the Lightning 3-0 in Game 1 and 5-1 in Game 2 before staging a comeback.

”We need to play as a group,” said coach John Hynes Demarcus Lawrence Jersey , who plans to make some lineup changes. ”We can’t have passengers.”

MacKinnon said the Avs need to clean up the little things against a savvy Predators team.

”We’re in a tough spot right now,” MacKinnon said. ”Two games at home. Hopefully, we can even up the series.”

The Predators fully expect a more tenacious rush from a youthful Colorado squad.

”They’re persistent,” Nashville forward Austin Watson said. ”There’s no quit in them.”

ENCORE

Boston hopes David Pastrnak packs his Game 2 performance for the trip to Toronto. The 21-year-old had three goals and three assists to become the youngest NHL player with six or more points in a playoff game, surpassing Wayne Gretzky, according to the Bruins website.

”When you’re breaking a Wayne Gretzky record, I hope he realizes at his young age how cool it is,” forward David Backes told reporters. ”Hopefully he had fun last night and enjoyed that moment because it is special.”

REASON FOR OPTIMISM

The Ducks can latch on to some recent history for optimism in coming back from an 0-2 deficit. They lost the first two games at home in the second round last year to Edmonton before rallying to win the series in seven games.

”That’s the situation we’re in. We have a good team,” Ducks forward Andrew Cogliano said. ”We have a team that’s been in these situations before.”

CAKE WALK

This definitely takes the cake: At the start of the playoffs, IndyCar driver Josef Newgarden, a Nashville fan, proposed a wager to fellow racer, James Hinchcliffe, a Toronto Maple Leafs supporter. The driver with the team that bowed out of the Stanley Cup playoffs first had to bake the other a homemade cake and present it at an autograph session while wearing the opposing team’s sweater.

”Challenge accepted,” Hinchcliffe responded. ”They (Maple Leafs) are going to win it all. Nobody goes further than the team holding the Cup.”

Hinchcliffe added: ”Personally http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com/josh-jackson-jersey , I’m a red velvet guy.”

Newgarden said he prefers vanilla.

SAVING THE DAY

Avalanche coach Jared Bednar thought goaltender Jonathan Bernier played ”OK” in the first two games.

”If you look at the importance of goaltending this time of year, good is usually not good enough,” Bednar said.

Goaltending is on the minds of the Devils, too. Keith Kinkaid played well down the stretch, but has struggled in the postseason. He was lifted in the second period Sunday after giving up five goals on 15 shots.

Cory Schneider, who was the starter most of the season until a hip and groin injury in January sidelined him for a month, finished and did not allow a goal on 10 shots.

”There is still a lot of hockey to be played,” Devils forward Taylor Hall said, ”and a lot of hockey on home ice as well.”

Aaron Rodgers' no-look touchdown pass is still the talk of Green Bay Packers training camp.

The defense was called for offsides to give Rodgers a free play during a two-minute drill in practice Thursday. The play was going left. Rodgers was looking left. But he threw the ball to his right.

Touchdown Josh Norman Jersey , Geronimo Allison.

The play looks even better on film to coach Mike McCarthy.

"I think you appreciate it more when you watch the video. I know I did, because he spoils you," McCarthy said Friday. "You don't have too many practices around here where he doesn't make that throw where you're just like, 'OK, file that onto the library. That's the way you want to teach it.'"

Packers fans who dared to worry about Rodgers' seven interceptions during the first five days of camp can breathe easy. The two-time NFL MVP likes how the offense has worked in the first week.

"Well, I'm working on things in training camp. I'm working on throws, whether it's looking or no-looking. Trying different plays that we we're working in," Rodgers said.

A 7-9 finish last season ended a streak of eight straight playoff appearances for the Packers. The offense struggled while Rodgers was out with broken collarbone, and the defense had familiar problems against the pass.

McCarthy overhauled the coaching staff after the season, which included bringing back Joe Philbin as offensive coordinator. Philbin was the coordinator when the Packers won the Super Bowl in the 2010 season.

"We've done a medium overhaul of some offensive concepts, so working on some new stuff and trying to get on the same page with receivers," Rodgers added.

An added wrinkle for Rodgers is the new looks in practice from coordinator Mike Pettine's defense. His units have finished in the top 10 in the league when he's been in charge.

"Well Vontae Davis Jersey , they're just so multiple. They have a lot of different pressures and types of pressures," Rodgers said. "They're giving you pressures where they can actually get home. We haven't had that issue in a while, where they scheme pressures to have a free guy on the play."

It gives the linemen good practice for the regular season, too, since the NFC North-rival Minnesota Vikings are among teams that run pressures similar to what the Packers' defense is doing now.

"So the protection elements for offense are really challenged by his defense, which is great for us," Rodgers said.

Getting Bryan Bulaga back will help too. The veteran right tackle was activated off the physically-unable-to-perform list on Friday and returned to practice on a limited basis for the first time since tearing his right ACL in Week 9 last year.

"I am very optimistic about Week 1, I really am," Bulaga said. "I still have some work to do to get to it but it's definitely looking better than it did, say, four months ago, even though I thought I'd still get to that point."

His return would solidify a right side of the line that will already have a new starter at guard. Bulaga is a steady Brett Maher Jersey , reliable presence up front who has played in big spots with Rodgers.

"He's a pro's pro. He knows how to play the game," Rodgers said. "Unfortunately, he's sustained a couple of tough injuries. But when he's out there, he's a rock."

At its best, a starting five with Bulaga gives Rodgers just enough time to get out of trouble and outside the pocket, where the quarterback might be most dangerous.

As he showed with his no-look TD throw to Allison.

NOTES: WR Jake Kumerow, an undrafted free agent in his second year out of Division III Wisconsin-Whitewater, continues to impress with his hands and route-running ability. He could be a long shot to make the roster, especially after the Packers drafted three receivers this year. But the 6-foot-4 Kumerow has earned some reps with the first-string offense and caught Rodgers' attention. "So there's going to be some tough decisions when the cutdown happens," Rodgers said. "We drafted three guys, so. If you're playing today, you'd like him on the field."

An optimistic Cam Newton says he's adjusting well to a new offensive scheme and boldly proclaimed it's time for the Carolina Panthers to "take back the division."

Wearing a "Change the culture" t-shirt and a "Keep Pounding" hat Adam Shaheen Jersey , an upbeat Newton was budding with enthusiasm on Saturday even after starting right tackle Daryl Williams went down with a knee injury earlier in practice.

In his first football-related interview in six months, Newton set a positive tone for training camp for a team that hopes to recapture the NFC South it won in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Carolina went 11-5 last season, but New Orleans won the head-to-head tiebreaker and took the division title.

Part of Newton's optimism surrounds the hiring of offensive coordinator Norv Turner and the addition of wide receivers D.J. Moore, Torrey Smith and Jarius Wright.

Newton said Turner has been "extremely easy" to work with and joked that his offense is "Boogie approved."

The 2015 league MVP said he likes that Turner is open to listening to suggestions about what plays may work best, even to the point to keeping the names of some of the predecessor Mike Shula's play calls.

"I think the onus is on (Turner) more so than us to take what we have done good and expand on it, rather than just ripping the sheets of paper up and having a this-is-my-way-or-the-highway mentality," Newton said.

Newton said it didn't take long to realize Turner has a high football IQ.

But he added that it's still a little too early to know exactly what to expect from the Panthers offense when the regular season arrives.

"I can't tell you that, (but) I know that the transition as far as philosophies has almost been as easy as anyone could expect," Newton said. "He is super relatable and is someone who has been around this league and been around a lot of egos and lot of different players and knows how to adjust. That alone makes my job easy knowing that he is a person who you can go to and say, 'This is how I feel about certain things.' And (he'll say), 'OK http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com/kentrell-brice-jersey , let's find out how we can implement it.' He's not a guy who is so egotistical who says, 'No, this play is going to work versus this.'"

Turner has already talked about wanting to improve Newton's completion percentage.

Newton's has completed just 58.5 percent of his career passes, but Turner would like him to be above 65 percent.

"That's a goal of mine and it is certainly attainable," Newton said.

Newton said that means learning to accept what the defense gives him, even if it means short dump-offs over the middle and to outlet receivers.

"That has to be my mentality," Newton said. "We have a lot of guys who can take two yards and turn it into 20 yards, or more. But it starts with me and I have to trust those guys and get the ball to them."

The 29-year-old Newton said he's feeling healthy heading into the season.

That's a big difference from last season when he underwent shoulder surgery and missed all of OTAs and minicamp and a large portion of training camp undergoing rehab.

"It was very big for me making the proper steps this offseason knowing that I am full go," Newton said. "My body feels great and I always have to mention to TD (linebacker Thomas Davis) that I even look great. I am in a position where I am all smiles."

Newton also addressed new owner David Tepper, teasing that "I'm up for an upgrade" after seeing he paid $2.2 million to purchase the team from founder Jerry Richardson.

"The excitement is something we all should get prepared for knowing we have a lively owner," Newton said.

Before making the five-hour drive from Cleveland to Buffalo's training camp Dan Skuta Jersey , receiver Corey Coleman was advised to leave behind the baggage of his two seasons with the Browns.

The injuries, dropped passes, and constant reminders of how Coleman failed to play to the Browns' first-round draft-pick expectations can all be set aside.

The Bills are offering him a clean slate.

"We all go through things in life that don't go our way," Bills general manager Brandon Beane said Monday, a day after acquiring Coleman in a trade. "I don't know all what went right or wrong for Corey in Cleveland. But we view it as a fresh start here to earn and compete."

For the relatively small price of a 2020 seventh-round draft pick, Beane took what he called a "low-risk" gamble in a bid to add breakaway speed and play-making potential to one of his team's most unsettled positions.

In Cleveland, first-year GM John Dorsey parted ways with a player who came to symbolize the overall dysfunction of the Browns' previous regime.

By trading down in the draft order to select Coleman with the 15th pick in the 2016 draft, the Browns passed on an opportunity to choose eventual Philadelphia Eagles starting quarterback Carson Wentz.

Hand injuries limited Coleman to playing just 19 games, during which he caught 56 of the 131 passes thrown in his direction for 718 yards and five touchdowns. That was a significant drop in production for a player who scored an NCAA-leading 20 touchdowns receiving and led the Big 12 with 1 http://www.chicagobearsteamonline.com/tarik-cohen-jersey ,363 yards receiving at Baylor in 2015.

Coleman's tenure in Cleveland will be best remembered for his drop late in the fourth quarter in last season's finale at Pittsburgh that sealed the Browns' 0-16 finish.

None of that now matters in Buffalo, where the Bills lack established depth at receiver behind starter Kelvin Benjamin.

Including Benjamin, acquired in a mid-season trade from Carolina, Buffalo's four returning receivers combined for 57 catches for 681 yards and six touchdowns last season. Jeremy Kerley, an eighth-year player, was the team's most notable offseason free-agent addition, while the Bills also used two late-round draft picks to select Ray-Ray McCloud III and Austin Proehl.

Beane revisited previous discussions he had with the Browns regarding Coleman, and elected to make the trade two weeks into training camp.

"I just thought now was the opportunity to get him in here to start learning this offense versus waiting any longer," he said.

Nothing Leonard Floyd Jersey , however, is guaranteed.

"He's not going to automatically get anything," Beane said. "He's got to come here and compete. That's what I told him on the phone last night."

Pending a physical, Coleman is expected to make his practice debut Tuesday. It's too early to determine whether he'll play in Buffalo's preseason-opener against Carolina on Thursday.

Kerley welcomed the added competition Coleman brings to the Bills.

"Here, it's a better opportunity for him to compete. It's a better opportunity for everyone. Competition is good," Kerley said. "It's going to definitely help us boost up a little bit."

As for Coleman's past, Kerley said the best advice is to forget it.

"Whatever happened in Cleveland, that's over with," Kerley said. "You're in a different place Mason Crosby Jersey , a different atmosphere, different coaches, different situation. You kind of get to redeem yourself."

The trade caught Coleman's now-former teammate, receiver Jarvis Landry, by surprise.

The three-time Pro Bowler, who came to Cleveland in a March trade from Miami, mentored Coleman during their few months together. Landry convinced the 24-year-old to change his diet and schooled him on what it takes to succeed.

"Just continue to work hard, continue to grind at it," said Landry Dick Butkus Jersey , who spoke to Coleman after the trade became official. "I think he's got a great grasp of that. And who knows, maybe in Buffalo that continues to carry over, and he has a hell of a career."

Coleman also had issues off the field.

He was named in a police report regarding an alleged felonious assault last year, but never charged. He was also sent home from the Browns' trip to Houston for missing curfew while he was injured.

The Bills were assured Coleman doesn't face possible NFL disciplinary action resulting from the alleged assault.

AP Sports Writer Tom Withers in Cleveland contributed to this report.

The Detroit Pistons hired assistant coaches Sidney Lowe and Sean Sweeney on Friday to join Dwane Casey’s staff.

Detroit also added Malik Rose as assistant general manager and player development coach DJ Bakker.

Lowe was on Flip Saunders’ staff with the Pistons during the 2005-06 season two decades after playing briefly for the franchise. He was an assistant coach with the Washington Wizards the previous two years. He led North Carolina State for five seasons, ending in 2011.Sweeney was a Milwaukee Bucks assistant the last four years.

Rose spent the last three seasons with the Atlanta Hawks as their manager of basketball operations. Bakker was an assistant video coordinator on Casey’s staff with the Toronto Raptors the previous two seasons.

Casey was chosen Coach of the Year after he was fired by the Raptors.
